Fresh FM is Greenwich's first young people's radio station, coming out of a studio on the Greenwich Peninsula. To contact us please email info@freshfm.org.uk
In September 2007 young people aged 13-19 from Greenwich came together to set up the station and work with APE Media to learn all the skills of a radio producer and presenter.
They have learnt how to set up and run a radio studio, construct their own programmes, interview people from the community, and present their own shows as part of their own station, ‘Fresh FM’.
Fresh FM's first live broadcast was over 3 days in March 2008 on 87.7fm and online. The project welcomes new members There are also opportunities for organisations working with young people in Greenwich to produce programmes for broadcast on Fresh FM
Fresh FM is organised by Greenwich based media arts organisation Stream.
Fresh FM's 1st phase was funded by MediaBox www.media-box.co.uk (a scheme funded by the Department of Children, Schools and Families). It is currently funded by The Big Lottery Fund.
Fresh FM is supported by Greenwich Youth & Play.
Fresh FM is part of Stream’s ongoing programme of media projects for young people across the Peninsula Ward. It aims to explore themes close to the young people's lives which effect the local community in Greenwich eg safety on the streets, police presence and young people as positive role models.
The projects include positive lyric writing, investigative journalism, discussion and debate and will be broadcast on Fresh FM.
The young people on all the projects have acquired new technical and creative skills, which are being accredited via AQA and are being supported in finding progression routes via links with industry professionals and advice and guidance sessions from Connexions.
